The MOSAIC after-school art program gives high school students a foundation for pursuing lifelong learning and careers as professional artists. Working alongside renowned San Antonio artist, Alex Rubio, MOSAIC students have the opportunity to develop their individual skills and work as part of a team on public art commissions.
Brackenridge High School alumnus, Zoe Palacios, who has been with the MOSAIC program for over two years, drew the original design for the Compass Rose and also served as the lead artist. Blue Star Contemporary hopes that this project, along with future projects, will continue to inspire public art and opportunities for young artists.
This project was made possible by the City of San Antonio, Department for Culture and Creative Development; Frost; and Valero Energy Corporation. Additional support was provided by San Antonio River Foundation, San Antonio River Authority, and Public Art San Antonio.
Located on the eastern side of the River Walk across from Main Plaza and the San Fernando Cathedral. Situated between Commerce and Market in front of the Drury Plaza Hotel at 105 South Saint Mary’s Street.
