Collecting Contemporary Art 101- What to Collect

Contemporary at Blue Star announces a three-part panel discussion: Collecting Contemporary Art 101. This series of discussion is designed to illuminate the processes and motivations behind collecting works of art to the general public, emerging artists, and burgeoning collectors. An educational response to the current exhibition “Gift: An Exquisite Exhibition” the lectures further reveal the important role collecting plays in the art world and gives real life examples from our local community of some of topics from Lewis Hyde’s The Gift: Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World.

Part 3: What to Collect

This panel focuses on deciding what to collect. It focuses on trends, schools, media, themes, and more, discussing some questions that should be considered when a work is purchased. Panelist will also discuss what is most important to them when deciding to purchase a work. Panelists include a collector, gallerist, curator, and conservator.
