ARTIST STATEMENT:

For this exhibit I will present works that explore various creative interpretations of the sensory modality of proprioception, both addressed as metaphor and as part of the formal aspects of experiencing imagery, particularly within the contexts of painting and photography. Proprioception describes the sense of self, or body schema, that we use to locate the various parts of our body relative to the whole, as well as to locate ourselves in space in relationship to environment. Most often this occurs by way of  extending this body-map to include things outside of ourselves, whether it is our car, a loved one, an idea, a society, or encountering an experience through an image, all of these connections are made relative to our sense of self. – Jason Willome
