  • 116 Blue Star, 78204

Families and kids of all ages are invited to attend Contemporary at Blue Star’s Family Saturday events, Sponsored by H-E-B Tournament of Champions.

This event focuses on our current exhibitions and brings together local artists and community organizations to offer creative activities. Works on view become the inspiration for art making and kids learn how to look at and understand contemporary art better through fun activities.

These events are free and open to the public and visitors enjoy complimentary food and refreshments.

Activities include:

MY FIESTA MEDAL – Led by the Contemporary at Blue Star MOSAIC Student Artist Program. It’s Fiesta time! Make your own one-of-kind Fiesta Medal.

LANDSCAPE OF 1775 – Led by Common Currents exhibiting artist Melissa Maschke. Join us in weaving a colorful landscape to celebrate 300 years in San Antonio! The weaving project, inspired by the year 1775, shares a story of the land and the establishment of the Spaniards. Did the Europeans settle here for Gold, God, and Glory? With some yarn and imagination, weave what you think is essential to the story.

HISTORICAL PORTRAITS OF POWER: HEADDRESS COLLAGE – Led by Common Currents exhibiting artist Karl Frey. Create your own historically inspired portrait decorated with personal flair and fantasy.  Empowered by the multicultural headdresses used to assert identity and ceremony throughout the globe, you are invited to create a portrait of power with collaged headdresses overflowing with your own choice of textures, colors, symbols, and absurdity.

EXHIBITION SCAVENGER HUNT – Guests participate in a self-led scavenger hunt of our current exhibitions! See if you can find all of the items.
